Here’s your Father’s Day weekend transit guide for Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and Caltrain service to Juneteenth festivities in downtown San Jose, the Bay Bridge Series between the San Francisco Giants and Oakland A’s in Oakland, and more.

San Jose Juneteenth Festival
On Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon-8pm, Cesar Chavez Park in downtown San Jose plays host to the San Jose Juneteenth Festival. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. This festival will have many artists and vendors on hand. Amongst the featured artists: Neo Soul artist Leela James on Saturday at 6pm and American Idol winner and R&B artist Ruben Studdard on Sunday at 6pm.
VTA’s 23 bus line and Convention Center light rail station are a short walk from the festival at Cesar Chavez Plaza on South Market Street just north of San Carlos Street in downtown San Jose.
Moveable Feast
This Saturday from 5pm-9pm, Moveable Feast (aka SJEats) with its famous food trucks takes place at 175 W. St. John Street in San Jose. The Feast is in the back of San Pedro Square. Several VTA buses and light rail are within walking distance of Movable Feast. Also, the St. James light rail station is two blocks east of the Moveable Feast site.
Whoopi Goldberg
On Saturday night at 7:30pm, Whoopi Goldberg will have her “Unique Lives” show at the San Jose Civic Auditorium. The Civic Auditorium is at 135 W. San Carlos Street in downtown San Jose. VTA’s 23 bus line and Convention Center light rail station serve the Civic Auditorium, with the light rail station in front of the front doors of Civic Auditorium.
Britney Spears (with Nicki Minaj) Concert
On Saturday night at 7pm, the HP Pavilion at 525 W. Santa Clara Street in San Jose will host the Britney Spears (with Nicki Minaj) concert. Several VTA buses like the 22, 64, and 522 Rapid, in addition to Caltrain serve the concert.
San Mateo County Fair
Thru Sunday, the San Mateo County Fair takes place at the San Mateo County Fairgrounds at 1346 Saratoga Ave. in San Mateo. Caltrain’s Hillsdale station is short walk to the front gates of the Fairgrounds via a paved path at the northbound platform end. All Caltrain local and weekend “Baby Bullet” service stops at the Hillsdale station.
Bay Bridge (Baseball) Series
The “Bay Bridge Series” between the San Francisco Giants and Oakland A’s takes place at Overstock.com Coliseum Saturday at 7:05pm and Sunday at 1:05pm. Take VTA’s 181 express bus from San Jose Diridon Station or the Great Mall in Milpitas to the Fremont BART station. From Fremont BART station, take any northbound train to the Oakland Coliseum station. Returning to the South Bay, take any Fremont-bound train to the end of the line, and transfer to VTA’s 181 express bus from there.
Alternately, take a Sacramento-bound Capitol Corridor train from San Jose Diridon Station or Great America station in Santa Clara to the Oakland Coliseum stop.
Both the BART station and Capitol Corridor stop are in the back of the Overstock.com Coliseum, visible from both platforms. Follow the station signs to the bridge over the tracks to the Coliseum.
San Jose Giants Baseball
The San Jose Giants take on Modesto Saturday at 6pm and Sunday at 2pm at Municipal Stadium on Alma St. at Senter in San Jose. VTA’s 73 bus line from 2nd/Santa Clara at the light rail stop serves Municipal Stadium with a stop right near the front stands.
