We’ve learned the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) seeks ideas from YOU on the future of transportation in Santa Clara County. Starting TONIGHT at 6pm online, is the first of several meetings VTA is holding to help plan public transit (as well as walking, biking, paratransit and highway projects) for Santa Clara County’s future.

What’s Going On?

VTA’s future planning will be based on input and ideas YOU give to VTA staff on hand at these meetings. Some cities in Santa Clara County may also provide their own plans to VTA staff for consideration and input. This future planning is known as Valley Transportation Plan (VTP) 2050. Such planning is only done in the County about once a decade, and helps determine transit projects in Santa Clara County for at least the next 20 years.

Here are some example ideas for VTP 2050 from some members of our group:

  • Judy Purrington wants the Santa Teresa light rail station in South San Jose to be more useful, with more bus service like the 27 and 66 terminating there instead of Kaiser. Also, express bus service serving San Jose, North County, and South County stopping at or terminating in Santa Teresa.
  • Danny Garza seeks a VTA light rail station at Ocala and Capitol Expressway in East San Jose, site of a future housing/business mixed development after Reid-Hillview Airport closes
  • David Hirsch wants VTA to restore the 81 bus line along Homestead Rd. running thru Western San Jose.
  • Swanee Edwards seeks Caltrain electrification in South County (Tamien-Gilroy) by having Caltrain work with VTA to make it happen.

What ideas on future transit, walking, or biking projects do YOU want to have happen in Santa Clara County? These meetings represent your first, best chance to let VTA staff know.
