Happy New Year 2022!

On behalf of the Silicon Valley Transit Users, I want to wish you a Happy New Year tonight.

Public transit in the Bay Area will be set up to take you to parties and back safely. Starting at 8pm, San Francisco MUNI, SamTrans, Caltrain, and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) buses will have FREE fares. Also, BART will have extended service throughout the system.

If you must go out and drink tonight, don’t drive. Also, don’t get in a car when the driver has been drinking or is in any way intoxicated.

Where possible, take public transit. If you can’t take public transit, get a cab or ride-hailing company to take you home.

Expect law enforcement throughout the Bay Area on patrol. Expect them to be ready to take you to their bars, should you get caught drinking and driving. Their bars are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Law enforcement’s bars are NOT the kind you want to get taken to. It can cost you up to $10,000 or more in legal fees and court costs. This in addition to having your driving privileges legally suspended.

Let’s not read about how someone was arrested, hurt, or even killed because they got behind the wheel while intoxicated. Especially when public transit was available to help take them home.

If you’re going out tonight, please stay safe and sane. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
