Ride VTA? Tell San Jose City Council You Matter!
by
•Some members on the San Jose City Council think you, as a transit rider, don’t matter. On Tuesday January 28, the San Jose City Council will vote on sending a letter to the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) opposing reallocation of funding to help increase bus and light rail service throughout Santa Clara County.
Details on what is going on – and how YOU can help stop this letter – are below.
Happy Birthday, Dr. King, Jr
by
•As we celebrate the birthday of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. today, this federal holiday will affect public transit in Silicon Valley today. In particular:
- Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) – will run a regular weekday transit schedule today. However, its Headquarters offices at River Oaks is closed today. Its Customer Service Center in downtown San Jose will be open until 6pm today.
- Caltrain – will run a modified schedule only for today. It features one (1) train to/from Gilroy and two (2) “Baby Bullet” trains between San Jose Diridon and San Francisco.
- SamTrans – will run a regular weekday schedule, with the exception of bus lines serving schools. Such bus lines will not run today.
During our celebration of the late Dr. King, Jr. today, listen to this once-lost speech he made at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom in 1967.
More transit news later this week. Note that the transit guides are being modified to reflect the new VTA schedule and service that took effect back on December 28.
